By MULENGA MUSONDA

TWO secondary school pupils are on the verge of appearing before the High Court for allegedly staging a robbery and getting away with wigs valued at over K300.

Donald Mwaanga 20, a Grade 11 pupil and his 17-year-old accomplice who is in Grade 12 appeared in the Choma Magistrates Court charged with one count of aggravated robbery contrary to section 294, Chapter 87 of the Penal Code of the laws of Zambia.

Allegations are that the two with others unknown stole 10 wigs and a disc all valued at K320, the property of Ms Beauty Ngonji.

It is alleged that the two used actual violence before or after stealing the items to overcome resistance or retain the stolen items.

The incident is said to have occurred on November 27, 2020 in Choma and the two have remained in custody since, a revelation that angered the court.

The magistrate called for the arresting officer and the probation officer to explain why the matter took long to be brought to court.

When the two appeared for explanation of the charge before Principal Resident Idah Mupemo, they said they understood.

The court explained to them that their charge is only triable in the High Court and they will have to wait for instructions from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

The matter was adjourned to February 19, for mention as the court awaits the instructions
