Italy seeks cooperation with Zambian firms in waster management, recycling

ITALIAN companies that have high skills in various areas such as water management, waste management and recycling are looking forward to future cooperation with Zambian counterparts,” Italian Ambassador to Zambia Antonino Maggiore .

Mr Maggiore said he was looking forward to achieve possible economic partnerships between Italy and Zambia in various sectors of the economy in order to strength the relationship between the two countries.

The Italian Ambassador was speaking when he paid a courtesy call on the office of the Mayor of the City of Kitwe Mpasa Mwaya who was represented by the deputy mayor Felix Malasha.

” The Italian government has a project to explore partnerships in various sectors of the Zambian economy including mining education and culture.

“We also have Italian companies which have high skills in various areas such as water management, waste management and recycling are looking forward to future cooperation with Zambian counterparts,” Mr Maggiore said.

Speaking on behalf of the mayor, Mr. Malasha said government through the local authorities has a lot of work to do to improve service delivery to the people especially in areas of solid waste management.

” People are expectant to see improvement in management of solid waste, they are looking forward to see infrastructure development and good road network.

“The City of Kitwe has a lot of business opportunities and we are hopeful that if some cooperatives partner with Italian Companies, we can improve the welfare of the residents and ultimately contribute to economic development.” Mr Malasha said.

Mr. Malasha said the local authority will be happy to partner with the international community to improve the well-being of Kitwe residents.

The Kitwe City Council has been grappling with a number of challenges which include solid waste management , street vending, illegal alloca-tion of land and vandalism which has not spared the cemetery.
