‘Mighty’, Nkana renew rivalry

“MIGHTY” Mufulira Wanderers and Nkana FC boast of having the biggest fan bases in the country and today the two giants will renew their rivalry in an intriguing MTN/FAZ Super League fixture at Shinde Stadium in Mufulira.

The Week-7 clash of titans promises sparks as both teams will be aiming to impress their sponsors, Mopani Copper Mines.

While “Mighty” will be seeking to recover from last weekend’s 2-1 loss to newcomers Mutondo Stars, Nkana will be looking for their first win of the season after four defeats and two draws in the last six games.

After two wins against Red Arrows and Green Buffaloes, two stalemates against Kabwe Warriors and Kansanshi and two defeats to Zanaco and Mutondo Stars, Wanderers are on tenth position on the log with eight points, six points ahead of their rivals Nkana who are bottom on the log with two points.

Today’s clash presents another tough challenge for the Ian Bakala drilled Nkana FC who have only managed one goal in six games played so far.

Meanwhile in the lunch time kick off at Shinde Stadium, rejuvenated Konkola Blades, after shocking Kansanshi Dynamos last weekend will welcome a Kabwe Warriors side which is unbeaten in the last five matches.

At Trade Fair Grounds in Ndola, struggling Green Buffaloes, who have endured some challenges in the first six games will face another tough test against the league leaders Zesco United.

Buffaloes, with only one win in five matches will be fighting for maximum points to escape the relegation zone as they are 15th on the log while George Lwandamina’s Zesco United will be aiming for maximum points to maintain top spot on the Super League table.

Buffaloes have scored three goals and conceded four in the last six matches and will need to come up with a perfect plan to stop the Ndola giants who have scored 10 and conceded six in the first six games.

Meanwhile, Edwin Imboela Stadium in Lusaka will come alive with a Midland’s derby involving High Flying Nkwazi and Sensational Zanaco who are aiming to bounce back to winning ways after a draw and one defeat in the last two matches.

And 2022 Champions Red Arrows, who defeated Napsa Stars in a Lusaka derby last weekend to move to second on the log date Prison Leopards who are aiming to recover from two defeats and one draw in the last three matches.

Tomorrow, Green Eagles, who have given their coach Alex Namazaba a three-match ultimatum after three consecutive defeats to Zesco United, FC Muza and Power Dynamos will host a Forest Rangers side that enjoyed a sweet victory over Nkana FC in their previous fixture.

Defending champions Power Dynamos will host Kansanshi Dynamos at Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe while Napsa Stars will play hosts to Mutondo Stars at Woodlands Stadium in Lusaka to conclude round seven of the FAZ Super League.
