Cancelling Kabwata non-starter, show proof, PF dares Chipenzi

By ADRIAN MWANZA

CANCELLING the Kabwata by-election on grounds that the appointment of the acting deputy Secretary General Nickson Chilangwa was not valid as he was appointed by former Republican president Edgar Lungu 16 days after the statesman resigned from active politics is laughable, PF acting president Given Lubinda has said.

Mr Chipenzi has indicated that President Lungu resigned as PF president on August 28, 2021, barely 16 days after PF’s electoral defeat but went on to appoint a PF Deputy Secretary General in his capacity as PF president on September 6, 2021, 10 days after his purported resignation.

He said this rendered Mr Chilangwa’s appointment as null and void, making it possible to postpone the elections once again.

But Mr Lubinda indicated that Mr Chipenzi needed to show proof that the appointment of the secretary general was done after the former head of state retired from active politics.

What I can say is that he who alleges should show proof and in this case Mr Chipenzi should prove that Mr Chilangwa’s appointment is null and void.

Meanwhile Kabwata aspiring candidate Clement Tembo said that the claim was laughable and that it should not be entertained by any well-meaning Zambian. Mr Tembo said that was an internal PF issue which needed to be dealt with internally and that the way people were treating the matter was laughable.
