Zamtel embarks on digital payments strategies

STRATEGIES that will contribute to the growth of digital payments in Zambia are currently being developed by Zamtel.
Digital finance offers immense opportunities for the country, reduces the cost of doing business and enhances over customer experience and convenience, says Zamtel Corporate Communications Manager, Changwe Kabwe.
Mr Kabwe said Zamtel, as an indigenous digital services provider was pushing for greater adoption of digital payments among Zambians as a move towards a Cash-Lite society.
Mr Kabwe was commenting on the launch of a new month-long Zamtel campaign dubbed “Tatyola Nafuti,” which is a revamp of the original Tatyola campaign which ran in March.
“Using the Zamtel Mobile Money platform, the company is encouraging more of its customers to shift to digital payments.
“Zamtel is keen on supporting the Zambian government’s overall goal of increasing financial inclusion from 59 percent to 80 percent by 2022 in line with National Financial Inclusion Strategy (2017-2022),” he said..
He said through its robust retail expansion programme, Zamtel was also increasing physical access to financial delivery channels such as customer service centres, mini-shops and agents.
Mr Kabwe explained that the return of “Tatyola Nafuti” campaign is in response to customer demands based on the feedback recorded in the initial campaign.
He stated that the promotion also aims to increase the use of digital finance in Zambia adding that Zamtel was confident that the reduction in withdrawal charges will translate into real savings for Zamtel Mobile Money customers.
He has since encouraged Zambians to fully embrace the use of digital transactions as a way of helping curb the spread of Covid-19.
“We are aware that global trends point to a fully digitised future and we believe that Tatyola Nafuti and all other initiatives we are doing as Zamtel will help millions of customers shift towards a digital lifestyle,” Mr Kabwe added.
Through Tatyola Nafuti, all Zamtel Kwacha withdrawals of above K150 to K5, 000 will attract a reduced withdrawal fee of K5 while those withdrawing amounts of K150 and below will pay the same withdraw charge of K2.40.
The promotion , which started on Friday, December 10 ends on January 10, 2022.
