A MINING “indaba” with a view to putting in place and implementing a stable mining tax regime is expected to take place before May this year.
Ministry of Mines and Mineral Development Permanent Secretary, Barnaby Mulenga, said Government was targeting to hold the “indaba” before Parliament dissolved in May this year.
“We will try and organise it before Parliament is dissolved. Parliament is dissolving in May, so before that we will try and squeeze it in.
Mr Mulenga said Government was currently holding consultations regarding the “indaba.”
In this case, Mr Mulenga said, there were several stakeholders involved, including other ministries.
“There are consultations going on but it is true that we are going to have an ‘indaba’ on mining once we finalise the consultations, we will let you know. “It is an event which is supposed to have the Finance Minister because of the taxation aspect, it is supposed to have the minister of Mines, the Commerce Minister because there are aspects of value addition in terms of trade so that at the end of the day we have a balanced programme,” he said.
