A CHILANGA youth who was attacked by suspected UPND cadres after they raided a Patriotic Front (PF) camp with stones and pangas on the eve of voting has died.

And Lusaka Police Commissioner Nelson Phiri said they have instituted investigations into the death of Teacher

Kalaluka who died after suspected UPND cadres attacked a Patriotic Front campaign team at their centre near Kalundu School in Chimanja Ward on Wednesday last week.

Mr Phiri said police had no suspects yet but that they would now treat the case as murder following the passing on of the victim.

PF media director Sunday Chanda announced the death of Kalaluka who passed away at the University Teaching Hospital (UTH) where he was admitted for medical attention.

Mr Chanda said Kalaluka, a member of the PF youth wing was among the team that was camped in Chilanga for the council by-elections held on Thursday, September 14 in which the ruling party candidate subsequently emerged victorious.

“The PF regrets to inform the nation of the passing away of Teacher Kalaluka of Chimanja Ward in Chilanga who was violently attacked by UPND cadres during the Chilanga Local Government election campaigns last week,” he said.

He described the violence experienced in Chimanja ward as a replica of the Mapatizya formula and regretted the fatal attacks.  He appealed for thorough investigations into the matter.
