DOES SOCIAL MEDIA USE SUCH AS FACEBOOK, MESSENGER, TWITTER, WHATSAPP, ETC. CONTRIBUTE TO POOR ACADEMIC PERFORMANCE IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS?

Milimo C Chumbwe: YES. Social media per se is not bad for secondary school pupils, but it surely does contribute to their failure because they abuse its use and cannot properly manage their time.

Shem Mushitu: Yes it does because most of the time is spent on social media. How can someone study with one hand holding the phone the other hand holding the book?

Kamfwa Abraham Kapindula Yes.Young people are abusing technology instead of learning, they are always on social media. Instead of studding they do use phones too much. They do wonder in time of exams asking the roofs where time have gone, regretting every minute of time they have not utilised for education means.

Paul Nyembo Boris It can contribute when you don’t know to manage your time, Example time to study and time to relaxing. If social media is used in a good way it can be very helpful. It is up to the person using it that contributes to his/her performance not social media itself.

Stephenson B. Njovu: Yes! It does and I have done a research in this area and my findings are that it does not only affect performance but production as well in work places.

Mukumbo Jnr Felix: 50=50.Other pupils use it for academic studies and others just chatting and downloading music and videos, hence no time to study. I may say that it just the way you take it.

Michael Pro Zee: It is making some idiots more stupid. Just start noticing how they insult the elderly without no shame and most of these idiots are parents with kids..

James Chipasha: Yes, social media is an addiction. The first thing most people do after waking up is reaching for their phones.

My conclusion is that students always seek to be updated with the happenings on their social media accounts.An hour barely passes, I had gone through it .

Wise Wezi Musukwa: Yes! The social media is being abused by school boys and girls who are spending much of their time downloading, watching videos and pictures that will not help them academically. Hence it is the duty of every concerned person to educate pupils on how they should spend time on social media.

Floyd Mwila: Yes. Social media Contribute. Most students are 100% depending on social media to answer their tests, assignments etc. But what is googled may be wrong answers.

El Chomene Ntinda: Yes, especially this time that they have introduced Facebook without data charges.

Watson Wise Manz: No it doesn’t. It depends to the person the way heshe is, not everyone is addicted to the social media.

Felix Konoso: I love Facebook, because that’s where  Chishimba Kambwili is our national hero for spilling the beans. ZNBC,Daily Mail and Times off Zambia distort information in favour of PF. Viva Facebook.

Kellys Usher Malata:Yes very much. Alot of pupils spend much time on the above mentioned than studying.

Menson Mwanza: Social media on its own is a good thing but it has been mostly abused. Instead of doing some research they are busy downloading video, music, and chatting with people they barely know navizungu vobonyoka, so the answer is yes.
