CB IS OUR STRONGHOLD NOW, SAYS UPND

COPPERBELT is our stronghold and a no-go area for the Patriotic Front (PF), the United Party for National Development (UPND) has said.

UPND Copperbelt chairman Elisha Matambo said this was evident from the number of parliamentary seats that the party had grabbed from the former ruling party.

Mr Matambo said in an interview that the UPND had the same number of Members of Parliament with the former ruling party in the province and that it had more members at local government level something that had never happened before.

He said this also showed that the province had always been a stronghold for the UPND but that people could not come out in the open to state where they belonged due to the threats they received from the then party in power, PF.

“We have always been popular on the ground especially in rural Copperbelt but people were afraid to state which side they were on for fear of being attacked.

“We are glad that a time like this one has come where people are free to decide which party they wanted to support and why. The voting pattern in the August 12 election clearly shows that people longed for this type of freedom for a long time,” he said.

Mr Matambo also said UPND would not relent but continue growing stronger and gain more numbers in the province.

He said the party would continue getting stronger while bringing people together and ensuring that people’s rights were not violated in any way.

Mr Matambo also assured the party that he would go on the ground as provincial chairman to grab more seats from those that were being nullified by the courts.
