Govt lacks will to resolve ZIALE problems – Chifumu Banda

By KETRA KALUNGA
CALLS to audit ZIALE are not necessary because all the problems that the institution is facing are well known to the government but it lacks the will to resolve them, a lawyer, Mr Chifumu Banda has said.
Mr Banda, who is former Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) vice president said the institution has since inception never had full-time lecturers and a full-fledged campus for a conducive learning environment.
He said in an interview that ZIALE has competent lecturers but the problem is that they are not full time hence the need for the government to engage them on a full-time basis.
“If the government is serious, I think through the Ministry of Justice it should employ some lecturers on a full-time basis so that you have full-time lecturers to run the courses there instead of part-time lecturers, competent as they may be,” he said.
Mr. Banda advised the government to do the needful to ensure that a conducive learning environment is present at ZIALE because it is aware of the problem of lack of a full-fledged campus for students.
He said it’s sad as a nation to continue to complain about the poor pass rate at ZIALE without examining the infrastructure.
“ZIALE has a plot at Silverest next to UNILUS, the government, if they had the will that particular plot would have been developed so that ZIALE has good learning facilities there,” Mr. Banda said.
