Napsa Stars dimmed as Zesco United reclaim top

By MICHAEL MIYOBA and MUKWIMA CHILALA

CAF Confederations Cup envoys Napsa Stars failed to shine at Khosa Stadium where they were made to chase shadows as Young Green Eagles ran riot to emerge 3-1 winners in yesterday’s Week-20 FAZ Super Division fixture.

Goals from Jack Ngulube, Damiano Kola and Isaac Ngoma handed Napsa a heavy defeat which denied Mohamed Fathi’s boys a chance to move into 11th on the FAZ Super Division table.

Ngulube broke the deadlock with a superb strike on the half hour mark to put the hosts ahead while their second had to come through Kola 15 minutes into the second half.

Napsa’s clumsy defence was punished further in the 65th minute when Ngoma slotted in an empty net after taking advantage of Rabson Muchelenganga and Luka Banda’s failure to clear the ball before Jimmy Mukeya got the consolation goal for Napsa in the dying minutes.

The defeat in Kafue was painful for Fathi who had rested some of his key players such as Emmanuel Mayuka and Dickson Chapa who came on when it was too late to rescue the Pensioners from losing in Kafue.

Mayuka and Chapa came in for Doisy Soko and Danny Silavwe but their introduction made no impact.

At Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola, Zesco United sailed to a 4-1 win over Lumwana Radiants to dislodge Zanaco from the top spot on the Super Division table.

Defenders Adrian Chama and former Under-20 captain Solomon Sakala showed strikers how it is done, scoring two great goals which had given Zesco a 2-0 lead before Luwawa Kasoma and Thabani Kamusoko came through with a goal apiece.

Chama put Zesco ahead with a wonderful goal from their centre line after he spotted keeper Ngelekwa Katembwa off his line before unleashing a long range effort which the keeper parried into his own net.

Sakala doubled Zesco’s advantage after heading in Jese Were’s corner before Kasoma benefitted from Kalengo’s through ball to score his maiden goal and Zesco’s third.

Emmanuel Manda scored the consolation goal for Radiants but it was Kamusoko who put the icing on the cake with a fine finish as the Ndola giants collected their fourth consecutive win.

Meanwhile, Red Arrows propelled to 28 points on the Super Division table where they are seventh after edging Prison Leopards 1-0 thanks to James Chamanga’s solo goal at Nkoloma Stadium in Lusaka.
