COPPERBELT University (CBU) needs K1.8 million to refurbish the institute, says Vice Chancellor Professor Naison Ngoma.

Speaking after touring the institute with CBU Chancellor Professor Muyunda Mwanalushi, Prof Ngoma said there was need for total renovation of the Riverside campus.

He said the recent cholera outbreak had created an urgent need for financial assistance to CBU.

He however said a number of repairs, with the help of the military, had been at CBU for it to reopen soon.

Prof Ngoma said the Ministry of Finance should pay more attention to CBU because more repair works had to be done at the campus.

And Prof Mwanalushi said there was need to modernise infrastructure at CBU.

He observed that the current rehabilitation works at the campus just involved repairing old buildings instead of modernizing them.

Meanwhile, Kitwe District Commissioner Binwell Mpundu said there was need for discipline, especially on the students’ part, in running CBU.

Mr Mpundu appealed to the Ministries of Finance and Higher Education to release funds for the rehabilitation works to finish fast.
