Chief Kalilele cries for boarding school

SENIOR Chief Kalilele of the Lamba-speaking people in Mushindamo has appealed to government to consider turning Lamba Secondary school into a boarding school.

The traditional leader told the Daily Nation in an interview that currently pupils that come from faraway places are forced to rent houses in the nearby villages.

He said the situation is leading to pupils become vulnerable especially girls.

‘’And this is leading to girls involving themselves in illicit activities and result into pregnancies. That is why I am appealing to the government to upgrade the school into a full-fledged boarding school,’’ the traditional leader said.

He called on the government to consider establishing a school within the palace to enable pupils with the area have access to education.

He said most pupils in the area drop out of school because the long distances they cover to go to school.

‘’So it is my humble appeal to the government to look into this matter seriously so that our children here can also get educated,’’ he said.

He said education is key to development hence the need to have a school within reach.
