THE Mungwi District Council has disagreed with Mfinshe ward councillor Anthony Mubanga over a proposal to renovate a building to be used as a clinic in the short-term, a source has revealed.
The source told the Daily Nation in an interview that, Mr. Mubanga and the ward development committee had identified a building which would be renovated so that it could be used as a clinic before one was constructed.
“The councillor asked the council to fund the project because the area had no clinic and the people were covering not less than 17 kilometres to the nearest clinic.
“People have suffered enough and we now need our own clinic. We just lost a child who could not reach the clinic due to anaemia and yet the council cannot see the need for a clinic in the area. Mr Mubanga engaged the district health office and the building was approved. All that is needed is to renovate it.
He said it was disheartening that the council rejected the project, claiming that it was not in the business of renovating clinics.
“Our councillor, Mr. Anthony Mubanga has tried his best to bring health care to our door step, the council is hindering social development” the source said.
Meanwhile Mr. Mubanga told the Daily Nation that he had since written to the council chairperson to intervene in the matter as this hinged on life and death. “We appeal to the council to please listen to our cry and fund the renovation of the building. The building has been approved by the end users and so all we need is support from our local authority,” he said.
