Foundation for Democratic Process (FODEP) has expressed disappointment over Anti Corruption Commission (ACC)’s silence on the alleged corruption activities committed by former Livingstone Permanent Secretary Edwin Zumbunu.

And FODEP in Livingstone said it was concerned that to date the nation had not been informed on how far the ACC had gone with investigations instigated Zumbunu.

It was alleged that Mr Zumbunu awarded himself a K750 million contract to build a wall fence at the provincial Ministers residence without the contract going through the tendering procedure.

He also allegedly engaged himself in block making business using government resources.

FODEP district vice chairperson Gideon Musonda asked the commission to explain what was going on to dispel the allegations from the public that they were not doing their job.

Mr Musonda said such allegations against Mr Zumbunu had a serious effect on the leaders occupying public offices.

“We therefore would like to find out from the Commission if they have taken interest to investigate these allegations, since we have not heard anything from them, and as an independent body we feel they have a responsibility to safeguard public confidence in the leaders and the offices they are occupying,” he said.

And FODEP Executive Director MacDonald Chipenzi said it would be not in the interest of the public if the issue was not conclusively addressed.

Mr Chipenzi said it was amazing that a letter written to ACC officials in Livingstone by FODEP has gone unanswered.
