UPND president Hakainde Hichilema has challenged the PF government to take keen interest in the health sector in the country and fund it accordingly.

In an interview Mr. Hichilema said that the health sector in Zambia under the PF leadership had failed and could not inspire the people of Zambia.

Mr. Hichilema said that it was as a result of lack of planning and priority that the PF and President Sata had chosen to prioritize by-elections at the expense of offering alternatives in the health sector in the country.

“It is not right for the PF to prioritize by-elections at the expense of service delivery. We have always been helping this government to plan and see where the money should go. The recent happenings at UTH have exposed this government to be ineffective and unreliable,” he said.

He said that it was surprising that various problems  had continued to rock the largest health institution in the country in the last few months under the PF government because of lack of commitment and plan on how to run the affairs of the nation.

Mr. Hichilema said that the private visit he undertook at the UTH was shocking as he find people sleeping on the floor.

He said that the medical personnel complained about ill treatment by government with regards to the provision of services such as improved medical supplies and other facilities in order to attend to serious health problems.

Mr. Hichilema wondered why the PF government had opted to lie to the people of Zambia about the critical situation at UTH.

“This government is still in its campaign mood where it is doing a Donchi Kubeba on the people of Zambia. We have to remind them that election time is over. Campaign period is all over. The people of Zambia want health services to be delivered at all costs. They don’t want to go to UTH and be given a prescription to go and buy panadol. They want to receive better health services,” he said.

He said that the PF had outlived its usefulness as it has failed to inspire the people of Zambia through the provision of a visionary leadership to the nation.

Mr. Hichilema has since appealed to the people of Zambia to take stock of the PF and hold the PF accountable.

He also appealed to the Church to take its responsibility seriously of serving the people by demanding for a better political and God fearing leadership.
