ABOUT K2.4 million is needed for the rehabilitation of Nalubumba Bridge which was partly washed away during 2016/2017 rain season in Kalomo, Parliament has heard.

Minister of Housing and Infrastructure Ronald Chitotela said works would start once funds were released by the National Road Fund Agency (NRFA) following a request from Road Development Agency (RDA) to undertake emergency works on the bridge.

Mr Chitotela however said no contractor had been identified because the project would be done by RDA regional office in Southern Province and the time frame of the project upon start would be three months.

Mr Chitotela was responding to UPND Kalomo Central Member of Parliament Harry Kamboni who during questions for oral answer, wanted to know when the rehabilitation of Nalubumba Bridge in the area would be rehabilitated. “Have been briefed by Southern Province Minister Edify Hamukale who visited the place last week, they have started putting up a foot bridge just to allow people  to pass so that movement is not disrupted,” said Mr Chitotela.

Meanwhile, Mr Chitotela said last week Government released K10 million to all the 10 provinces, with each province being allocated K1 million to cater for emergencies.

He said the PF Government did not discriminate based on the political affliction, but ensured it took development to all corners of the country.

“Whether it is opposition or where the Patriotic Front won development will be assured because we are one people,” he said.
