THE Road Development Agency (RDA) should speed up construction of drainages and roads in the area, Patriotic Front Kabwata Ward 6councillor, Longa Chiboboka has said.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, Mr Chiboboka explained that Kabwata was part of the RDA Phase Two L400 road and drainage construction project that was covering 10.9 kilometres.

On drainages, Mr Chiboboka urged the RDA to expedite the works to reduce on floods residents are currently experiencing heavy rains.

He said the ward did not have enough drainages hence the reason why RDA should expedite the works.

“Some residents of Kabwata have had their homes flooded during this rainy season because the area does not have permanent drainages as most of them are temporal.

Mr Chiboboka said officers from the Disaster Management and Mitigation Unit (DMMU) and himself on Tuesday visited some of the affected families whose homes had been flooded to assess the impact of the damage. He said it was unanimously agreed to use short term solutions of removing floods from the affected houses and unblocking some drainages in the area.

Regarding the construction of the roads in the ward, Mr Chiboboka said so far 41 streets had been identified.

“Under the RDA Phase 2 of the L400 project the ward was given 10.9 kilometres,” Mr Chiboboka said.
