The player exodus that hit Zambia’s representative in the CAF Champions League Zanaco may be reversing following revelations that two of the players who had trekked back to their respective clubs are back with the bankers preparing for Mbabane Swallows of Swaziland next weekend.
Sources from both Kabwe Warriors and Zanaco confirmed that the two sides are today expected to finalise talks over Richard Kasonde and Rodrick Kabwe in order to allow the two join Zanaco who have stepped up preparations for the club continental game at Nkoloma stadium in Lusaka.
Kabwe Warriors chairman Andrew Kamanga could neither confirm nor deny that his side has finally allowed Kabwe and kasonde to join the bankers while sources at Sunset stadium confirmed that the two players were already training with the rest of the players.
Kamanga said Warriors were obliged to assist whenever asked and hinted that the players in question were expected to rejoin Zanaco after the two clubs finalise their discussions today.
In Lusaka Zanaco Coach Keegan Mumba welcomed the decision between the two clubs saying “This is what I have been waiting for.”
“That is welcome news. The two players have quality and they will greatly contribute to realising our dreams at Zanaco. We want them to fuse in with the rest of the players before the big match against Swallows” he said.
He praised Kabwe Warriors for the mature gesture and hoped other clubs holding onto the players he had identified to assist his club in the CAF Champions League will emulate Warriors.
“Warriors have shown maturity. Zanaco’s participation in the Champions League is not about the club, it is national duty and unless we work together to form a formidable team, we shall fail to achieve what other clubs have achieved” he said.
Mumba’s plans for a strong, quality team were thrown into disarray last week when several clubs from where he had loaned some players demanded for their players sending Mumba into a sleepless week.
Last weekend Zanaco’s weakness were laid bare when they were thrashed 3-1 by visiting Platinum FC of Zimbabwe who are coached by former Zambia national soccer team player Tenant Chilumba and a few days later, Power Dynamos reigned supreme over the Lusaka based side beating them 2-0 in another training match in Kitwe.
