Former Community Development Minister Michael Kaingu has been elected MMD vice president in charge of politics with Dr Brain Chituwo going through unopposed as vice president in charge of administration.

This was after the former ruling party National Executive Committee (NEC) held elections to fill vacant positions in the party at its secretariat.

Two other contestants for the positions, Lucky Mulusa (politics) and Muhabi Lungu failed to win the support of the electorates.

Former vice chairman Kabinga Pande has been elevated as National chairman following the resignation of Mr Michael Mabenga while former Kafue Member of Parliament and Livestock and Fisheries Minister Bradford Machila is the new chairperson for legal affairs.

The former ruling party has also changed its slogan from the ‘hour has come’ to “New Hope”. This decision was arrived at unanimously by all NEC members.

The positions for deputy chairperson and chairperson (lands) have not yet been filled as the party NEC decided to give party members more time to consider applying for the positions.

Former Matero Member of Parliament Faustina Sinyangwe went through unopposed as chairperson for labour while Dr Cansius Banda got the position of chairperson for health. Elizabeth Chitika was voted chairperson for Arts with Newton Samakayi scooping the post of chairperson Local government.

This was the first NEC meeting the former ruling party held after its rebranding and retreat held last month.
