PRESIDENT Edgar Lungu has urged the church to give counsel to opposition politicians who are always issuing irresponsible, careless and misleading statements that have the potential to set the country ablaze.

President Lungu said the church should provide counsel to opposition politicians who were issuing statements aimed at promoting hatred and divisions in Zambia.

Speaking at the United Church of Zambia Chimwemwe Congregation in Kitwe yesterday, the President said, he would always listen to constructive and positive criticism.

He would however not waste time responding to people with bitter hearts who were always insulting him because they did not expect him to be their republican President.

“Most of the people who are insulting me, are bitter because they did not expect me to be republican President, but God has made me republican President. I thank God for this and I will always seek his wisdom,

“As Republican President, I will always seek counsel from the church. I would also like to urge you, the church to give counsel to those politicians who are insulting and issuing irresponsible and careless statements that had the potential to put Zambia on fire.

And President Lungu has directed the Kitwe City Council to reduce rentals for stalls at Nakadoli market so that marketeers could occupy them and trade in a better environment.

This was after he toured the market where he was dismayed by the poor service delivery by the local authority.

“I am directing the council to considerably reduce rentals of shops and stalls here at Nakadoli Market so that marketeers and traders can afford to pay and trade in a better environment.

“This should be done within February. By the end of February, I should get a feedback. Marketeers are unable to occupy these shops and stalls because of the exorbitant rentals being charged by the council.

He promised marketeers who had moved to Nakadoli Market that he would construct a decent shelter for them to trade from.
