Man in court for murder

 A 36-year-old man of Lusaka’s George Compound yesterday appeared in the Lusaka Magistrates Court charged with murder.

When the matter came up for mention before Magistrate Kenneth Mulife, Clifford Chipango could not take plea as the offence he is facing can only be tried by the High Court.

Magistrate Mulife told the accused that he would only be appearing for mention until instructions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) are issued for his committal to the High Court.

In this matter, it is alleged that Chipango on January 13TH 2018 murdered Zamaya Namukoko.

The matter has been adjourned to February 27TH 2018 for another mention while awaiting committal to the High Court.

Meanwhile, a 27-year-old man of Rwandese origin pleaded guilty last week Friday to one count of trafficking in 16.5 grams of marijuana and one count of obstructing a Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC) officer  without lawful authority.

When the matter came up for facts and sentencing before magistrate Brian Simachela, Pascal Nahayo, who is remanded in custody was not brought before court for unknown reasons.

In count one of it is alleged that Nahayo, on January 10th 2018 in did traffic in 16.5 grams of marijuana, a herbal product of cannabis sativa without lawful authority.

In count two, Nahayo, together with two others namely, Nemrod Ruremesha 65, and Estere Ruremesha Pacific 29, on January 10th 2018 whilst acting together, did obstruct Isaac Njobvu from duly executing his duties as a DEC officer without lawful authority.
