THE Meteorological department has warned of torrential rains over the next few days running until February 13 across the country.

According to a weather forecast made available to the Daily Nation, the heavy rains which have left a trail of destruction and flooding in most parts of the country are due to the Inter Tropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) which will be oscillating about the southern border of Zambia.

During the same period a deep low pressure system associated with the ITCZ will be covering the western half of the country.

This low pressure system is said to be centered over Lake Kariba and will result into continuous and heavy falls with high chance of flash floods over Western, Southern, Lusaka, Central, Copperbelt and North-western Provinces.

Accordingly, the rest of the country will experience rainfall and thundershowers in many places.

The situation is however expected to change from February 14th to 17th with deep low pressure system starting to weaken thereby causing a temporal reduction in rainfall activities over Southern, Lusaka and Central Provinces.

Meanwhile in some of the Townships in Lusaka, the heavy rains have flooded most houses and roads making it impassable for motorists while in some parts of the country among them Southern Province, bridges have been washed away by the torrential rains.
