DEPUTY Provincial Permanent Secretary Douglas Ngimbu has implored contractors working on the Solwezi Chingola road to ensure that the road is completed within the contractual period.

Mr Ngimbu said the Government has shown political will to have the road completed by ensuring that it is fully funded.

He urged people in the province to show appreciation because government was trying to bring development to the province.

“We have all seen the political will that the President of the Republic of Zambia Mr Edgar Chagwa Lungu has shown by ensuring that contractors are fully paid. So, the onus is on you contractors to ensure that you work hard and complete the project,’’ Mr Ngimbu said.

The Deputy Permanent Secretary said this yesterday when he inspected the progress on the Solwezi-Chingola road project.

He was pleased with  the quality and pace at which the works were moving.

Mr Ngimbu said the Government  had not only shown commitment to deliver development to the province in road sector but in many other areas as well.

He cited the connection of all the districts in the province to the national electricity grid, replacing diesel generated thermal power, which was costly and unreliable.

Meanwhile, the two major contractors on the Solwezi Chingola road project China-Geo Cooperation and Buildcon, pledged to complete the works within the stipulated time frame.

And both China Goe Cooperation assistant resident engineer Mathews Madfro and Buidcon Assistant Resident Engineer Sehma Dalakhenfenta echoed that the heavy rainfall in the area was delaying affecting work.
