Pande blamed for MMD leadership crisis

OPEN Society Foundation (OSF) has accused MMD National Chairman Kabinga Pande of lacking leadership in addressing the management problems the former ruling party is facing.

Organization Executive Director Sunday Chanda told the Daily Nation that the happenings in the MMD should have attracted the attention of Mr. Pande to step in and remain neutral while providing visionary and transformational leadership at such a critical hour.

“The battle lines in the MMD have been drawn and this is because the National Chairman has lacked the resolve to address the issues raised by expelled MMD National Secretary Major Richard Kachingwe. The Chairman has endorsed the illegalities, namely the expulsion of Major Kachingwe and the appointment of Hon. Kapembwa Simbao as National Secretary,” he said.

Mr. Chanda who is former MMD losing Kanchibiya Constituency parliamentary Candidate demanded for the resignation of Mr. Pande saying that the honourable action the National Chairman could do was to step down and allow other more candid persons to provide leadership to the MMD at such a critical hour.

He said that the principled stance taken by MMD Vice president (Administration) Dr. Brian Chituwo and MMD National Women’s Chairperson Catherine Namugala in the light of the confusion was the only way o rebuild the troubled party.
