PF TO INTERVENE ON PLIGHT OF UNZA STUDENTS

THE ruling Patriotic Front (PF) youth wing says it will engage government on helping the 8,000 UNZA students who are in an examination limbo for failing to pay tuition fees.

PF national youth chairman, Stephen Kampyongo who is Home Affairs Minister said the party was concerned with the plight of the students, adding that he will ensure that the students were assisted.

Mr. Kampyongo said this on Monday during his Lusaka Urban youth empowerment drive when he gave out K75, 000 to Kabwata and K75, 000 to Lusaka Central constituencies respectively.

He said he will soon engage UNZA management through the Ministry of Higher Education to intervene in the plight of the students.

Mr. Kampyongo said, as national youth chairperson, he would ensure that all the youth were empowered with either money, jobs or businesses to help change their lives for the better.

He indicated that the PF remains committed to providing equal access to higher education to all people irrespective of their race, creed, language, tribe, social status, colour, nationality, religious or political affiliation.

Mr. Kampyongo noted that education was one of the major keys to success for the youth hence the PF will find alternative ways of helping the affected students.

“As a national youth chairperson, I will speak for all the youth in Zambia in all the fields, whether you are in media, home affairs or education, I will speak for you…

“As for the issue regarding the 8,000 UNZA students, I will engage my dear elder sister Honourable Professor Nkandu Luo and see what can be done in order to preserve the careers of our young brothers and sisters,

“I am saying this because I know that she is a mother and because she has been an educator herself and I am sure she equally wants to see our children get access to the education which they deserve,” Mr. Kampyongo said.
