Police summon Prime TV over leaked Govt document

Prime TV Managing Director Gerald Shawa and his  acting Station Manager Makokwa Kozi, have been summoned by the Zambia Police in connection with a leaked government document which the Zambia Police addressed to the Station’s legal counsel requesting for footage of  the press briefing that was held by the UPND on 10th October, 2016.

Zambia Police Spokesperson Esther Mwata Katongo has confirmed that Mr Shawa and Mr Kozi have since been warned and cautioned for the offence of communication of certain information contrary to section 4 (1)(b) of the State Security Act Chapter 111 of the Laws of Zambia.

Ms Katongo stated that it was an offence  in accordance with Section 4 (1) (b) of the State Security Act for any person who has in his possession or under his control any document or information which he has had access owing to his position as a person who holds such office or has held such office and who communicates the same to any person other than a person to whom he is authorised to communicate . Meanwhile, Following numerous reports on land encroachment and threats issued to owners of Land in Lusaka West , Police in Lusaka yesterday  apprehended 295 people for criminal trespass on private property in Lusaka West. Lusaka Police Commissioner Nelson Phiri has confirmed that the suspects were apprehended during an operation which was conducted in the areas after several reports from the complainants including Charles Chingambu and Mr Jack Kalala whose properties were encroached.

Mr Phiri stated that among those apprehended on Site were 67 females and 228 males and were currently detained in different police custody and would appear in court soon.
