NDOLA district PF youth secretary Jones Kaliati has appealed to the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC) to reverse the suspension of Ndola Town Clerk Ernest Sumani and 31 Ndola City Council (NCC) officers.

In August last year, LGSC suspended Mr. Sumani and the 31 officers from NCC Planning, Housing and Legal departments on allegations of illegal land transactions.

In a walk-in interview, Mr. Kaliati, a former civic leader, said no one had been found wanting since investigations into the allegations were instituted.

“A lot of workers were placed on suspension without doing preliminary investigations to establish if they were involved or not. To date, the Commission has not updated the public on how far the investigations have gone.

“We know the officers are receiving their half pay but my concern is on how long this will take. Why pay officers that are not offering any service to the local authority for such a long time? It is a waste of resources since nothing has been established,” Mr. Kaliati said.

Efforts to get a comment from LGSC chairperson Amos Musonda failed as his phone went unanswered by press time.
