A 28-YEAR-OLD woman narrated before a Local Court in Lusaka that her husband has not been touching her for a month and that she has to beg him to make love to her. This is in a case in which Margret Mbewe of SOS compound sued her husband, Daniel Mbewe, 30, of Mongu for divorce on allegation that he was cruel to her. The two got married in 2008 and have two children, but dowry was not paid. Margret told Senior Court Magistrate Miyanda Banda sitting with Magistrate Pauline Newa at Matero Local Court that problems started in 2011 when Mbewe started work at Auditor General’s Offices in Mongu as he began having girlfriends who sent to him their nude photos. She explained that Mbewe stopped touching her for a month and that she had to beg him to make love to her, adding that if he wanted, he would just push fingers in her private part. Margret said the other time Mbewe’s girlfriend phoned she asked her how she could feel if it were her going through that. To her surprise, when Mbewe came home and told her to pack her belongings and leave, accusing her of insulting his boss and that it was how she came to live at SOS on September 4, 2013. “Mbewe has since married another woman and he has children including the one from the other girlfriend,” said Margret. In defence, Mbewe said that problems started in Mongu because Margret was tearing his pay slips for no good reason. He explained that Margret’s mother insulted him on phone and that when he took her to her parents she refused to resolve the matter but opted to come to court. Mbewe denied pushing fingers in Margret’s private parts and said that he could not stay with her because they had stayed for a long time on separation. Magistrate Banda said that there was no marriage since no dowry was paid, adding that the two were just cohabiting and he went on to dismiss the case.
