Explain HH streaming of LAZ conference

Dear Editor,

There has been no proper explanation how the Law Association of Zambia (LAZ) press conference was streamed on HH’s Facebook.

It could not have been by coincidence that the content of the press conference also coincided with the content of the press release issued by UPND Secretary Steven Katuta.

It is important that these matters are clarified to put to rest the growing suspicion that LAZ which is known to harbor close relatives of members of the infamous cartel is not being used to champion opposition goals.

This country requires a truly professional Law body that will give the public reliable legal advice to guide in time of serious division, such as the current controversy over appeals to the ConCourt in election petitions. Two Judges have contradicted themselves on the matter and unless proper guidance is given the country will remain divided over a matter that is clear and straight forward.

As our democracy develops, many issues will arise requiring cogent and impartial consideration from independent organisations and institutions to balance what Government may consider to be the right course of action. Therefore, it is imperative that such institutions should be reliable and well informed.

It is in this respect that we need a truly trustworthy legal Association to guide the development of our nation because the law undergirds all national endeavors.

Linda Kasonde and her team should quit LAZ

Dear Editor,

It was nice to learn that our current LAZ administration is not against the formation of another association on the parallel lines- at least its president Linda Kasonde has welcomed the idea.

But if I were Ms Kasonde, I would have developed a troubled mind because the idea is being mooted out of very serious reasons and observation by the concerned parties

It is either the current LAZ is full of leaking holes or someone has noticed something which is totally incompatible with its mission. This should worry you Madam Kasonde.

To merely welcome the formation of another law body, to me it is an admission that you are not up to it and that s0mething has gone off the mark in your LAZ and is now stinking.

Must I remind you what you did at your last press briefing where you streamed live on Hakainde Hichilema’s Facebook? What was that for?

Is HH your master that he should monitor every move you make? That left many Zambian wondering and probably shocked.

For me, the best you could have done is to make sure that you and other current office bearers leave LAZ and call for fresh elections.

For now Madam Kasonde, I think the damage you have caused to this association is irrevocable for as long as you remain in your post.

It is never too late. You think seriously about the future of LAZ and not for yourself.

The formation of another legal body, for me, is not a solution.

So I am calling on the entire current LAZ management to quit and save the association from further mortification.

Mr Kambwili, please take it easy

Dear Editor,

Our former Information Minister and chief government spokesperson Chishimba Kambwili is truly a man of all colours.

That he can change his colours to suit his newly found environment is probably an understatement. He is actually a chameleon.

I thought government decisions are a collective bond and just because he is on the other side of town does it mean he has thrown his oath of secrecy and duty to the wind?

I am pretty sure that he was part of government decision to ban night travel by public service transporters in the wake of horrid road accidents which have been happening especially at night.

By the way, Government has not banned night travel per se because those businessmen and women using their own cars are free to do so.

The issue is with public service vehicles only. Moreover business men and women should not depend on public transport if they really know what they are doing.

And in any case, how does night ban affect business when travel these days on our rehabilitated roads is a marvel. There is absolutely no need to travel at night at all.

If one, say starts his or her journey to Chipata at 05.00 hours, they will be in that town in time to do business and spend a night if need be for another safe journey back home the following morning. Is that asking for too much? I don’t think so.

Can you imagine putting lives of 60 other travellers on a bus carrying about 8 businessmen and women in danger?

I am totally behind the night travel ban whether Mr Kambwili wants to organise a national uprising or not.

Please, Mr Kambwili I know you have issues with this government but it will not help you much if you start antagonising it.

Learn something from the Post that humility pays. Arrogance or playing to the gallery has its own price to pay. It happens all the time

Who owns the Mast and Wall Times newspapers?

Dear Editor,

Even from the shyest mind, it is cool or plain to note that the current Mast and Wall Times newspapers are definitely owned by Mr Fred M’membe. Let him deny it.

He simply can’t fool us on this one and even the Post liquidators, I am sure should be following these two newspapers with keen interest.

But what probably boggles my mind is where Mr M’Membe is getting money from to run these two publications if he has failed to honour his tax obligations to the Zambia Revenue Authority.

Is it possible that Mr M’membe has millions stacked somewhere or is being sponsored by influential opposition political party leaders (you know who) bent on settling political scores with the current government?

It simply does not make any sense to me and ZRA should earnestly get to the bottom of this because I suspect someone is playing polka games.

I am equally disenchanted with our police work especially in matters of investigations.

Maybe that’s why even our Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) could not be bothered to give reports of their investigations to the Head of State.

Something is awry with our security wings whose allegiance appears to have gone elsewhere and NOT to the people of Zambia.

There are some people who have been breaking the law with impunity in this country but nothing has happened to them.

It is because of this police inertia that some concerned Zambian lawyers were forced to report two opposition political leaders to ICC for action because our local police decided to watch over the events in Namwala with folded arms. Completely irritating!

For me, there is need for a big shake-up in all security wings if they are to be seen or begin to be deliver to people’s expectation.

Those who indeed have decided to live in frugality (again you know who) they are dreamily welcome to do so because that is what democracy is all about, I think.

Just a thought!
