TOPSTAR, the public signal distributor, has reduced the decoder price from K199 to K99 to ensure digital life for all Zambians, TopStar sales director Cliff Sichone announced yesterday.

Mr Sichone said the price reduction was meant to ensure that all Zambians were able to benefit from the TV digital migration programme currently being rolled out across the country.

Mr Sichone disclosed that the migration was being rolled out under a programme dubbed “Digital Yafika” which would see more towns connected to TopStar digital signal.

“The price of our full decoder kit which was costing K199 has been reduced to K99. The Yafika campaign will see more towns connected to our signal and more Zambians will benefit from digital TV.” He said.

Meanwhile, Mr Sichone said that the decoder, came with over 40 channels and that 12 of these were local channels.

He explained that currently, there was no subscription fee as the migration programme was still under test.

“subscribers along the line of rail had been able to view up to 40 channels for free during this period and will only begin to pay subscription on October 1 this year when analogue signal will be switched off,” said Mr Sichone.

Mr Sichone reiterated it was a requirement for all TV set owners to have a decoder to access digital TV signal.

He said that TopStar in partnership with Government was making the latest technology available at an affordable price. Mr Sichone said that all the 10 provinces would also be equipped with ultramodern studios and other necessary facilities.

“TopStar is a company that was registered in June 2016 as an authorised body to move the entire country from analogue to Digital Terrestrial Television (DDT)” he said.
