UNITED Party for National Development (UPND) has reported to Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and alerted Police about allegations of improper issuance of stalls at Mkushi’s Itala market involving embattled Chibefwe ward councillor Geshom Musonda.

UPND Mkushi district chairman Davy Nyoni confirmed the development in a statement issued to the Daily Nation.

Mr. Nyoni said his party had formally reported to the ACC for thorough investigations on the matter and alerted the Police for the way forward.

Mr. Nyoni said allegations against Councillor Musonda should be cleared before the public as soon as possible.

“UPND is curious as to why Mkushi District Council has taken so long to act on the matter with facts and in public interest. Despite the whole council’s effort to constitute an ad hoc committee to investigate the matter, progress must be seen,” Mr. Nyoni said.

Mr. Nyoni said his party was worried that the local authority had not yet suspended the civic leader over the matter to pave way for investigations.

However, Mkushi District Council Chairman Evans Bwalya said no one had reported any allegations against Mr. Musonda.

“Currently, there is no complainant who has presented evidence against Councillor Musonda implicating him in the stalls scam at Itala market. There are no facts and the council cannot act on hearsay,” Mr. Bwalya said.
