ZAMBIAN Pastors should rise above board and desist from engaging in partisan politics and instead provide direction on all issues, the Evangelical Fellowship of Zambia (EFZ) has said.

EFZ executive director Pukuta Mwanza urged pastors not to get involved in partisan politics regardless of their political affiliation.

In an interview with the Daily Nation, Rev Mwanza explained that the Church must not be used as an avenue to propagate partisan interests but rather must be used highly for the purpose of preaching the gospel and spiritual matters.

“The Church must not be used as an avenue to propagate partisan interest but rather that church buildings are used highly for the purpose of preaching the gospel and spiritual matters.

The clergyman said the Church had been very persistent in the early 1990s when Zambia transitioned into multi-party democracy and stood firmly to ensure that there was a clear direction.

He said pastors must be able to remain above board and be effective in their ministry.

He said pastors could comment on issues of politics, economy, social life and social issues without been biased.
