PROBE CEC expensive power…exorbitant charges choking industry, says energy expert

“EXORBITANT” electricity tariffs, charged by the Copperbelt Energy Corporation (CEC) which are three times above those authorized by the Energy Regulation Board (ERB) must be investigated urgently by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC), an energy expert, Johnstone Chikwanda has said.

Mr Chikwanda has disputed a High Court judgment which sought to nullify the powers of regulating authorities in the industry, by putting CEC above the law. 

He said it was unacceptable that CEC’s underhand dealings, undermining Zesco could be perpetuated to the detriment of consumers and Zesco, as it was also in the business to make profit.
