State assures jobless doctors

GOVERNMENT has assured over 400 “protesting” doctors who are seeking employment that they will all be employed when funds are made available.

Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary – Technical Services, Kennedy Malama told the doctors that Treasury authority had been given to recruit 395 health workers, including doctors.

Dr Malama said in as much as the number was not enough to accommodate all the doctors seeking employment, recruitment was done in phases depending on the availability of funds.

This is according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Health.

Dr Malama urged the doctors to be patient as the matter of recruitment of health workers was priority on the government’s agenda.

He said the meeting with representatives of the doctors yesterday was held in a cordial manner and that the ministry appreciated their response.
