Zanaco game for Cameroonians

ZAMBIA’S envoys in the CAF Champions League tournament, Zanaco FC’s ability to maintain top position in Group D of the tournament today undergoes severe test when the local league champions host Cameroonian side Cotton Sport FC in the third Group D fixture at the 60,000 sitter National Heroes Stadium in Lusaka.

Having collected their first CAF Champions’ League group stage win after beating Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca 1-nil on May 24, Zanaco will seek to collect maximum points to increase their chances of progressing to the next round of Africa’s most prestigious club tournament.

Numba Mumamba’s boys will also seek to maintain their unbeaten record in Group D when they host the Cameroonians in today’s fixture.

The Zambian champions will also seek to collect maximum points, having recorded a barren draw against Zesco United in last Sunday’s league game at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

Speaking to the Daily Nation Sports in Lusaka, Zanaco head coach Mumamba said his team was ready and focused on collecting maximum points against the Cameroonian giants.

Mumamba however said the game would be a tough, noting that Cotton Sport is an experienced side with a reach history in African football.

“We are ready for the fixture against Cotton Sports. Preparations have gone well and we are looking forward to playing the Cameroonian side,” Mumamba said. “We will be playing an experienced team that has been representing its country in CAF tournaments for many years now.

“Our target is to collect maximum points in each and every game we play. We will work hard to collect all points to have a chance of progressing to the next round,” Mumamba said.

A win against the Cameroonian giants will see Zanaco maintain top position in Group D with seven points. Meanwhile, Zambia envoys in the CAF Confederations Cup Zesco United will host Recreativo do Libolo of Angola in the third Group C fixture to be played tomorrow afternoon at Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Ndola.

The Ndola giants will seek to redeem themselves after their 1-0 loss to Sudanese Al Hilal Al Ubayyid on May 24th.
