Husband on the run after murdering wife

A 47-YEAR-OLD woman of K village in Kanakantapa ward of Chongwe has allegedly been murdered by her husband after a marital dispute. Chongwe district commissioner, Mr. Robster Mwanza who confirmed the development described the incident as devastating.

He condemned the suspected murder and appealed to the residents to practice restraint when faced with the temptation to engage in fighting. He disclosed that the couple reportedly had a sharp difference on women’s day on 8th March and the wife was even hospitalized after being assaulted. He said that the suspected murder happened in the early hours of yesterday (12/03/2021).

He named the suspect who was currently on the run as Walubita mwanang’uku, 51. He however assured the family that he was hopeful that police would do their job and bring the culprit to book.

He revealed that police visited the scene after receiving a report and picked the body. According to him, the suspect allegedly ran away with the wife’s cell phone and an undisclosed amount of money.

The DC also thanked the father of the suspect for calling for the arrest of his own son. He said that this showed that the father was a cooperative citizen. And Kanakantapa councilor, Hildah Musopa condemned the act. She named the deceased as Bertha Zimba, 47.

She also bemoaned the slow response by police. She, therefore, appealed to police to ensure that they respond to reports by residents promptly. She said that the deceased earlier reported the husband for assault. She was however surprised that police only showed up after the murder. Meanwhile, the suspect’s father, Mr. mwanang’uku condemned the barbaric act by his son. He also confirmed that the couple had sharp differences since women’s day on 8th March.

He acknowledged that the deceased reported the matter to police and was issued with a call out for the suspect, but no action was taken. Efforts to get a comment from the police proved futile by press time. Meanwhile the body of the deceased was deposited at Chongwe hospital awaiting further action.
