Only guilty ones fear cyber law – Sinkamba

By KETRA KALUNGA

ONLY the guilty ones are not comfortable with the enactment of the Cyber Security Bill, Green Party president Peter Sinkamba has said.

Mr Sinkamba said it was being irresponsible for United Party For National Development  (UPND) president, Hakainde Hichilema to state that he would reverse the Cyber Security Law if he wins the August 12 general elections.

The UPND leader was quoted in the media as saying he would reverse the Cyber Security Law once ushered into office.

But Mr Sinkamba said only those who were using social media to commit crimes would be worried about the law because it was meant to protect victims of cyber- crime and bullying.

“Our view is that you must be sorted out because you cannot use social media to commit crime, so any action which is intended to protect the victims of crime using social media for us we think is justified,” he said.

Mr Sinkamba said it was important that the law enforcement agencies have a way to detect crime being planned on social media and deal with the culprits before striking.

He said Zambians needed to be protected and action should be taken to deal with culprits before they commit more crimes against innocent people. Mr Sinkamba said the life of a Zambian was more important than the freedom of any person.

“The same way you are not using physical means to go and steal from shops because you fear you will be arrested, the way same way you must fear that if you are going to use social media to commit crimes you would be arrested, there is no difference at all, that is our view,” Mr Sinkamba said.
