Mealie-meal prices to drop by the end of April

By AARON CHIYANZO

MEALIE-MEAL prices are expected to start dropping towards the end of April until they reach their lowest in July or August this year, Agriculture Minister Michael Katambo has said.

Mr Katambo said Government had allowed millers with their own maize who meet an agreed criteria to export 20 percent of their mealie meal.

He said at a media briefingin Lusaka yesterday that the maize stock figures in the country including what FRA was holding for strategic reserves, indicated that the country was food secure.

The maize stocks, he said, would last up to end of October, this year.

Mr Katambo said initial reports of the ongoing 2020/2021 Crop Forecast Survey indicate that the country’s production of major crops was on the rise.
