GOVERNMENT will soon compensate the families that were displaced to pave way for the construction of a weigh bridge in Chongwe, says the Road Development agency (RDA). RDA director communications and corporate affairs, Masuzyo Ndlovu, said the people who were displaced from Chombwa village on the Great East Road would soon get their compensation. Mr Ndlovu stated that all the affected families would be fairly compensated.
He said Government was aware of the complaints by the remaining three families that appealed for the revaluation of their land and property. Mr Ndlovu said that RDA received the complaint and the re-evaluation process had already commenced through the Government Valuation Department. And Chongwe Member of Parliament, Japhen Mwakalombe, said that the resident engineer, Julius Njovu, had also assured him that RDA was in the process of compensating the three affected families.
Mr Mwakalombe, who is also Copperbelt Minister, said that the contractor had already made submissions to RDA. Meanwhile, Chongwe District Commissioner, Robster Mwanza, was pleased that Government was re-evaluating the land and property to ensure that the affected families were well compensated.
