GBM calls for unity of purpose

By SANFROSSA MANYINDA

LET us bury our differences and unite as one people as we head towards the August 12 general elections, Patriotic Front national deputy mobilisation chairperson Geoffrey Mwamba has advised. Mr Mwamba called on Copperbelt Province PF officials to work in unity and put aside their differences in the interest of the party.

He said the members needed to work in harmony, love one another and embrace unity while putting personal differences aside for the party to perform well in the August polls. Mr Mwanba was speaking when he received 884 defectors from the United Party for National Development (UPND), National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Democratic Party (DP) in Mufulira yesterday.

“We should ask for forgiveness from the Head of State for having left the PF to join other parties. “Copperbelt has always been our bedroom and neglecting it for the people who do not have leadership experience will not be a good idea,” Mr Mwamba said. And former NDC leader Mwenya Musenge said he had taken the mantle to help the PF in mobilising more people to help it garner more support to win the August elections since his return to the party.

Mr Musenge said he was going flat out in the province to mobilise people and stating that he had managed to work with the party structures and mobilised over 800 defectors from three opposition political parties in Kantanshi constituency. He however raised concern with reports he continued to receive that some of the people who rejoined the part with him were being sidelined in some areas.

Mr Musenge appealed to the PF members to open up their hearts and doors and embrace the people who were returning to help the party grow. He also urged those joining not to destabilise party structures or rush for positions but ensure that they work with the existing structures and wait for the time that the party would consider them for positions. Meanwhile, Mufulira Mayor Gift Mushinge urged party members to continue mobilising people so that it could retain power.
