LUSAKA Mayor Wilson Kalumba has been condemned for removing kiosks for Zoona, MTN and Airtel from the Central Business District (CBD) which provides employment for youths, while failing to demolish illegal structures in Lusaka’s Emmasdale area.

Last Friday, the Lusaka City Council (LCC) police swung into action to remove money transfer booths for MTN, Airtel and Zoona from the CBD.

Opposition Zambia Republican Party (ZRP) leader Wright Musoma has taken a swipe at the Lusaka mayor saying he should have spent his energies on sorting out issues of illegal structures erected all over Lusaka and in Lusaka’s Emmasdale area in particular.

Mr Musoma said his party was disappointed that LCC had the energy to  remove kiosks while failing to deal with illegal land developers.

“Much as we appreciate his (Kalumba) effort of trying to clean up the city, he made a mistake to remove kiosks which provide employment for the youth.

“He should have concentrated on the illegal structures for example those that were reported to have been erected on public roads in Lusaka’s Emmasdale by our Indian brothers,” he said.

Mr Musoma said LCC should not be seen to be selective in executing its duties but do it fairly.

He has challenged the LCC to first demolish the illegal structures erected all over Lusaka by the people with financial muscle before turning to kiosks which provide the much-needed employment for the Zambian youths.

Efforts to get a comment from Mr Kalumba proved futile as his mobile line was on sleep mode.
