Cornelius Mweetwa gimmick bacKfires

By NATION REPORTER

CONTROVERSY has emerged after UPND Choma Central Member of Parliament Cornelius Mweetwa’s gimmick to portray himself as the most popular candidate was exposed.

Inside sources have revealed that Mr Mweetwa sponsored a group of youths to demand that he rescinds his decision not to re-contest his seat in the August 12 elections to create a picture that he was the most wanted candidate.

On Sunday, Mr Mweetwa announced that he would not re-contest the Choma seat which he had held for the past two decades on pretext that he wanted to concentrate on taking UPND president Hakainde Hichilema to State House.

But speaking at a media briefing on Monday, Mr Mweetwa rescinded his decision, claiming that after the announcement on Sunday, he had received a lot of criticism and misinformation, alleging that he had been bought by the ruling Patriotic Front.

“From the time I made the announcement that I would not re-contest the Choma seat I have received a lot of mixed responses from the people,” he said.

Sources however told the Daily Nation that it was all a ploy to portray himself as the most popular candidate.

And UPND chairman for elections, Garry Nkombo has announced that the party had postponed the adoption for candidates due to the ongoing verification of school certificates at the Examination Council of Zambia.
