ZAMBIA Medicines Regulatory Authority (ZAMRA) has argued that the recall of medical products supplied by Honeybee Pharmaceuticals Limited and another was done in accordance with the Medicines and Allied Substance Act.
Meanwhile, Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency (ZMMSA) contends that it stored the recalled medical products on behalf of the Ministry of Health but was not involved in the procurement of the medicines.
This is a matter where ZAMRA and ZMMSA have been sued in the Lusaka High Court by Chapter One Foundation Limited for failure to perform their statutory duties and exposing Zambians to substandard medicines and medical supplies procured from Honeybee and Shalina Pharmaceuticals (Zambia) Limited.
The Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO) wants the court to declare that ZAMRA breached its duties under the Medicines and Allied Substances Act and a declaration that ZMMSA (formerly Medical Stores Limited) breached its duties under the Zambia Medicines and Medical Supplies Agency Act.
