Bishop Lungu offside on church empowerment – RCZ

By NOEL IYOMBWA

GOVERNMENT’S Covid-19 church empowerment will greatly assist the body of Christ which has not been spared by the pandemic, says the Reformed Church in Zambia (RCZ).

RCZ Ndola synod moderator, Ackson Banda, said there was nothing wrong with the government providing empowerment funds to the Church.

Reverend Banda said the Church has a God-given mandate to support the government of the day because leaders come from God.

He said RCZ was grateful for the gesture given by the government as it was done in good faith.

He said Government’s response to the many challenges the Church and other institutions had been facing during this period of Covid-19 was a timely gesture.

Rev Banda called all the churches to support the empowerment and not stop politicising the gesture.

“This is our money which is from taxpayers, hence there is need to help the needy in our churches and institutions. The Church is also affected in many ways, this is a timely gesture.

“As RCZ we have applied for these funds and we are looking forward to receiving it so that we can help our people in the community,” he said.

Rev Banda urged all citizens to support Government in promoting peace before, during and after the August 12 elections.

“Let every person be subjected to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and those that exist have been instituted by God,” Rev Banda said.
