By KALOBWE BWALYA

ABOUT 22, 000 tonnes of mealie meal have been exported to the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) since the export programme started, Millers Association of Zambia (MAZ) president Andrew Chintala has disclosed.

In an interview, Mr Chintala expressed gratitude that millers had been operating since the inception of the programme close to a month now.

Mr Chintala however said that millers were using a single indoor system, with minor challenges.

He said Government together with Zambia Revenue Authority (ZRA) had quickly come on board to ensure that there was no delay in the export programme.

He also commended his members for showing a spirit of togetherness in exporting the commodity without any delay.

Mr Chintala also said most of the millers on the programme had reduced the price of mealie meal to the recommended price.

He said the millers that were on the export initiative were competent and eager to deliver the required tonnage of mealie meal in DRC.
