FARMERS URGED TO VENTURE INTO BEE KEEPING

THE Mpongwe Beekeeping Enterprise (MBE) has urged farmers in the country to venture into bee keeping

MBE Manager Christabel Mumba says returns in Beekeeping are higher than other agricultural enterprises such as crop farming.

Ms Mumba added that Bee keeping is also an environmental friendly venture as it promotes forest conservation.

She disclosed that Mpongwe Beekeeping Enterprise provides and facilitates market linkages for honey and honey products such as bees wax.

Ms Mumba explains that bees wax fetches a high price on the market more than honey despite it been a small component honey.

She called on farmers in the country to count on the MBE for their market needs.

Ms Mumba further explains that apart facilitating market linkages MBE is in the business of empowering youths with loans and equip them with knowledge on how Beekeeping.

And Nyimba district senior agriculture officer Prisca Mutale says beekeeping enterprise promotes farmer’s resilience to climate.

Mutale said Nyimba district is implementing the strengthening climate Resilience Agricultural Livelihoods in Agro-Ecological region 1 and 2 SCRALA project.

The project is currently promoting   beekeeping farming in the district in it’s quest to strengthen farmer’s resilience to climate.

And a farmer from Nyimba district Gift Sakala has thanked government and it’s cooperating partners who are implementing the SCRALA project for the gesture.-NAIS

Sakala says the exchange visit was very fruitfull as it has opened farmers eyes regarding high yielding Beekeeping Enterprise. He has since called on his fellow farmers that have learnt from MBE to put the information to use and ultimately transform their livelihoods
