I DIDN’T STEAL, I BORROWED, CLAIMS SUSPECT

A 27 years old man who has been dragged to the Choma Magistrates Court on allegations of stealing money explained that the complainant lent him the cash.

This was in a matter in which Sylvester Soonde appeared before Court charged with Theft contrary to section 272 of the Penal code Chapter 87 of the Laws of Zambia.

Allegations are that Soonde stole K1, 400 from Miriam Chansa.

The alleged incident is said to have occurred on unknown dates but in the year 2019 in Choma district of the Republic of Zambia.

When he appeared for plea before Senior Resident Magistrate Peter Mungala, the accused person admitted to taking the money but in his explanation stated that she gave him the money on credit.

Magistrate Mungala recorded a plea of not guilty and adjourned the matter to May 18 for commencement of trial. Soonde was remanded in custody.
