19 CANDIDATES VIE FOR PRESIDENCY

NINETEEN presidential candidates have paid their nomination fees including one independent candidate, Electoral commission of Zambia (ECZ) Chief Electoral Officer Patrick Nshindano has announced.

The ECZ has since closed receiving the nomination fees for president candidates.

Mr Nshindano also announced that after the inspection, de-duplication and final register of votes, the voters’ register now stands at 7,023.499.

He was speaking at the media briefing in Lusaka yesterday.

Mr Nshindano said out of 7,023,499, about 3,751.04 were female representing 53.4 per cent while 3,272,459 were male.

He said Lusaka province has the highest number of registered voters at 17.71 per cent with North-western Province being the lowest at 5.51 per cent of the total registered voters.

At constituency level, Mr Nshindano said Kanyama in Lusaka has the highest number of registered voters at 177 per cent while Lufubu constituency in Ngabwe district has the lowest number of registered voters at 11.4 per cent.

Mr Nshindano however hoped that all those that did not verify details would not be disenfranchised due to anomalies that could arise as a result of not verifying details.
