ZAMBIA Sports Fans Association (ZASPOFA) patron Peter Makembo is tomorrow expected to be discharged after spending five weeks at Lusaka’s St Johns Paul Orthopaedic Mission Hospital where he underwent a successful spinal surgery.
Makembo has hailed President Edgar Lungu who he said has been sending officials from State House to encourage him as he recovers from a spinal operation.
He said he is looking forward to be discharged so that he can continue recovering from home.
Meanwhile Makembo has hailed FAZ for lining up crucial friendly matches for the Zambia national soccer team and the Copper Queens ahead of the AFCON qualifiers slated for September and June respectively.
FAZ has clinched international friendly matches for the Chipolopolo who will play Senegal on June 5 while the Copper Queens will face Mozambique on May 30.
Makembo said the friendly matches will give the technical benches an insight of where the teams needs reinforcement ahead of the qualifiers.
He said the Copper Queens and the Chipolopolo must be focused ahead of the qualifiers.
“FAZ is on course to ensuring that the teams prepare adequately for the World Cup and the Africa Cup qualifiers and that is why as fans we are encouraged to see FAZ concluding talks with Senegal and Mozambique for the friendly games,” Makembo said.
After playing Senegal the Chipolopolo is expected to face two more sides to prepare for the World Cup qualifiers slated for September.
“Our Copper Queens will play Mozambique on May 30, 2021 in Maputo. We are in talks with other teams to play our senior women national team as part of preparations for the Olympic Games and the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers,” said FAZ General Secretary Adrian Kashala.
The Chipolopolo is preparing for the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers that have been pushed to September while the Copper Queens are warming up for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and Africa Women Championship qualifiers.
